HOW TO NAIL IT THIS VALENTINE’S DAY

Hump Day Health Hack with Nutrition Coach @amyfitnessandnutrition

From chocolate to beetroot here are 5 foods to boost your libido…

From some of the least sexy vegetables on the planet to date night staples, here is the science behind why they work and why they should be on your Valentine’s Day menu.

Maca

Dubbed natures Viagra…the maca plant (in this country generally found in supplement form from health food stores) has exploded in popularity recently and this may be why. Maca root has traditionally been used to enhance fertility and sex drive in its native Peru. It’s also claimed to improve energy and stamina.

Beetroot

Not the sexiest vegetable on the planet but that red hue (as nature's colouring system would imply) seriously helps to increase blood flow. The nitric oxide in Beetroot can help boost blood flow to exactly where you need it to go. This is the same reason athletes use it to boost their performance.

Oysters

boost dopamine (our feel-good hormone), which increases libido in both men and women. They are extremely rich in zinc, which is essential for testosterone production. And even though women generally have much less testosterone, it also plays a key role in a lady’s libido.

Chocolate

Sorry Dairy Milk lovers – it’s the dark stuff only that works a treat. Magnesium helps to relax both our muscles and mind. It also supports the production of serotonin, one of the body’s happy hormones. Given that low mood can also mean your libido struggles, a few squares of dark chocolate (70% Cocoa +) could help to pump up the passion.

Alcohol

The trick with this one certainly comes in moderation…otherwise it can have the opposite effect. What alcohol gives in psychological inhibitions it can take away in physiological function. That said, overall alcohol certainly helps most people to relax and let go of inhibitions that could hold us back from feeling comfortable with a partner or new flame. Cheers to that!

WILL YOU GIVE ONE OF THEM A GO?
